Abstract: The Skyrme energy density functional (EDF) has been applied to the study of entrance barriers for fusion reactions. The nucleus–nucleus interaction potentials are calculated in a double-folding form, utilizing the nucleon density distributions derived from the Skyrme EDFs. It is shown that the altering the velocity-dependent terms in the Skyrme EDF leads to a noticeable improvement in the description of the location of the Coulomb barrier in its maximum. Based on the height of Coulomb barrier obtained, a new set of parameters for the Skyrme interaction has been proposed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
