Abstract: The article discusses the strategic rehabilitation initiative being planned by the Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) and engineering firm CDM Smith for the Heroes Tunnel in Connecticut. It explored the project objectives such as extending the structure's service life while improving operational reliability, the planned modernization of the fire protection and life-safety systems of the Heroes Tunnel, and the traffic management options being considered during the rehabilitation.
