Abstract: Source mechanism analysis is a core theoretical issue in microseismic monitoring technology research. In response to the shortcomings of using dislocation models to explain the existence of non-shear components in practical engineering, this paper elaborates on the theoretical methods of the generalised dislocation model and its relationship with the moment tensor. Expressions for the isotropic (ISO), double couple (DC) and compensated linear vector dipole (CLVD) components under the generalised dislocation model are established. This paper proposes a new method for determining the type of rock mass fracture based on dislocation vectors and the angle between the fracture surface labelled as α. The changing trends of ISO, DC and CLVD components concerning α are analysed, and the Ohtsu fracture type is improved when α is greater than zero and less than zero. The type of earthquake source fracture based on different values of α is obtained, and the practicality of this method is verified by combining a typical engineering monitoring case. In contrast to Ohtsu's advantage discrimination method, the proposed approach eliminates the need for intricate moment tensor decomposition and DC component calculations, significantly simplifying the computational process while enhancing the accuracy of rock fracture type determination.
