Acting beyond concepts: a comparative study of entrepreneurial actions between novice and experienced entrepreneurs in early-stage venture creation.

| Abstract (English): | There is a lack of understanding about early-stage entrepreneurial actions, as existing research focuses on later stages and overlooks how experience impacts entrepreneurial actions. However, entrepreneurial experience has a pivotal role in shaping entrepreneurial actions, serving as a distinguishing factor within the scope of this study. Therefore, we employ a grounded theory research approach building on 112 in-depth interviews in which we differentiate between novice and experienced entrepreneurs. We analyzed the extensive data set following the methodology of Gioia et al. Our findings include the identification of three dimensions of entrepreneurial activities, namely Entrepreneurial Alignment, Resource Enhancement, and Value Generation, that are relevant for both novice and experienced entrepreneurs. In addition, we are able to identify 27 specific entrepreneurial actions distributed between the three dimensions but differing depending on whether the entrepreneur is a novice or experienced. Examining these results, we outlined differences and commonalities in the activities of the two groups: novice entrepreneurs follow a sequential, unconnected, and perfectionist-driven process, while experienced entrepreneurs adopt a parallel, interconnected, and iterative process across the three dimensions. | Abstract (Spanish): | La compréhension des actions entrepreneuriales à un stade précoce est faible, étant donné que les recherches existantes se concentrent sur les stades ultérieurs et négligent l'impact de l'expérience sur les actions entrepreneuriales. Cependant, l'expérience entrepreneuriale joue un rôle central dans la détermination des actions entrepreneuriales, constituant un facteur distinctif dans le cadre de cette étude. C'est pourquoi nous utilisons une approche de recherche théorique ancrée qui se base sur 112 entretiens en profondeur dans lesquels nous faisons la différence entre les entrepreneurs novices et les entrepreneurs expérimentés. Nous avons analysé l'ensemble des données en suivant la méthodologie de Gioia et al. (2013). Nos résultats comprennent l'identification de trois dimensions d'activités entrepreneuriales, à savoir l'alignement entrepreneurial, le renforcement des ressources et la génération de valeur, qui sont pertinentes à la fois pour les entrepreneurs novices et expérimentés. En outre, nous sommes en mesure d'identifier 27 actions entrepreneuriales spécifiques réparties entre les trois dimensions, mais différentes selon que l'entrepreneur est novice ou expérimenté. En examinant ces résultats, nous avons mis en évidence des différences et des points communs dans les activités des deux groupes : les entrepreneurs novices suivent un processus séquentiel, non connecté et axé sur le perfectionnisme, tandis que les entrepreneurs expérimentés adoptent un processus parallèle, interconnecté et itératif dans les trois dimensions. Les praticiens et les chercheurs peuvent tirer profit des résultats de l'étude pour l'enseignement de l'entrepreneuriat et les théories des ressources dans la création d'entreprises à un stade précoce.
