| Abstract: | A self directed learning system was developed, based on an earlier version of a computer based system; this revised system contains features designed to make it easier to use and improved pedagogical strategies. The experimental test described in this report was designed to separate the effects of training in self directed learning from the use of the system itself. Data were collected on four different measures of learning: (1) effective learning, (2) selective learning, (3) planning, and (4) verbal report. Results of the experiment indicated that there were no significant differences among treatment groups in performance data even though one of the experimental groups outperformed the other groups significantly on the measure of verbal report, and on all other measures as well.
