| Abstract: | Proper installations, inspections, operations, maintenance and repairs of wastewater collection, conveyance and treatment facilities have a significant impact on the operation and maintenance costs, and the effectiveness of these facilities. This manual is the first volume of a two-part program designed to provide wastewater collection system operators with the knowledge and skills to effectively operate and maintain collection systems. Originally developed as a part of a home-study course for collection system operators in remote areas, it is now used as a text in college and university classes. This volume contains chapters dealing with: (1) the wastewater system operator; (2) why collection systems operations are done; (3) different types of wastewater collection systems; (4) safe procedures; (5) inspecting and testing collection systems; (6) pipeline cleaning and maintenance methods; and (7) underground repair. Included is a final examination, a glossary, applications of arithmetic problems to collection systems, and an index. (TW) |
