| Abstract: | Initiated to address issues concerning preservice and inservice needs of art, music, dance and theater arts teachers, this symposium considered ideas and methods for improving teacher preparation and education at all levels of instruction. Charles Fowler presented "The Crisis in Teacher Education: Issues for the Arts," and Kathryn Martin, in "On Teaching Teachers to Teach," analyzed a status report on learning processes in arts teacher education. In "Art for Art's Sake and More," G. Leland Burningham considered the relationships and conflicts of arts teaching as they relate to the total education process. What art teachers need to know for effective classroom teaching is described by Gerard Knieter in "Teaching the Arts," and Brent Wilson concluded with "Evaluating Teaching in the Arts: Scenes from a Complex Drama." Responses to a number of these presentations are included. Additionally, these proceedings contain information on: (1) planning and developing the symposium; (2) the agenda; (3) recommendations for arts teacher training improvements; and (4) a summation and evaluation of the symposium.
