Abstract: This project, referred to as the Aviation Careers Accessibility Program (ACAP) established a model program for inner-city minority high school students that would allow them information and accessibility to careers and opportunities in the aviation industry. The project featured two program components: an academic year component during and a 5- or 6-week residential summer component. Over the 3-year grant period, more than 250 students were served. Both components included field trips, guest speakers, career counseling, academic enrichment, test-taking preparation, personal development, mentoring, and exposure to college campus life. Project evaluations were conducted by a questionnaire designed to explore student perceptions and feelings about various aspects of the program. Students were generally positive about their experiences in the program and indicated the program met their expectations and they wanted to be involved in other project activities. They indicated the program helped them to learn how English, mathematics, computer science, and aviation studies were used in the aviation industry. Most students felt the program curriculum was diversified, challenging, and educational. They were very positive about the effectiveness of the field trip experiences.
