| Abstract: | Pivotal response training (PRT) is an intervention that integrates principles of child development with those of applied behavior analysis (ABA). This means that facilitating a PRT interaction involves a simultaneous consideration of the learner with Autism Spectrum Disorder's (ASD's) developmental levels and progression, along with the intentional progression through the antecedent-behavior-consequence (ABC) pattern of behavior that is familiar in other behavioral interventions. This means that throughout a PRT session, there are many times where the practitioner cycles through this 3-part sequence: (1) delivery of clear opportunities to respond (antecedent); (2) the learner with ASD exhibiting a behavior; and (3) the practitioner providing feedback to the learner with ASD (consequence). This evidence-based practice (EBP) overview on PRT includes the following packet components: (1) Overview; (2) Evidence-base; (3) Step-by-Step Guide; (4) Implementation Checklist; (5) Data Collection Sheets; (6) Tip Sheet for Professionals; (7) Parent Guide; (8) Additional Resources; (9) CEC Standards; and (10) Module References. [This brief was co-written by the Autism Focused Intervention Resources and Modules (AFIRM) team.] |
