Abstract: This document records testimony from a hearing held to examine combating graphic, explicit content in school libraries to protect kids. Member statements were presented by: (1) Honorable Aaron Bean, Chairman, Subcommittee on Early Childhood, Elementary, and Secondary Education; and (2) Honorable Suzanne Bonamici, Ranking Member, Subcommittee on Early Childhood, Elementary, and Secondary Education. Witness statements were presented by: (1) Lindsey Smith, Parent, Chapter Chair for Moms for Liberty; Dr. Jonathan Friedman, Director of Free Expression and Education Programs, PEN America; (2) Max Eden, Research Fellow, American Enterprise Institute; and (3) Megan Degenfelder, State Superintendent of Public Instruction, Wyoming Department of Education. Additional submissions include: (1) Ranking Member Bonamici: (a) Letter dated October 19, 2023, from the American Library Association (ALA); and (b) Letter dated October 17, 2023, from Penguin Random House; and (2) Honorable Virginia Foxx, a Representative in Congress from the State of North Carolina: Statement dated October 19, 2023, from Nicole Solas.
