Abstract: Curriculum reform is an opportunity to refresh programs to meet the needs of current students, but this is not without significant investment from teachers. In this exploratory multiple case study, semi-structured interviews captured teachers' processes of curriculum interpretation for mathematics planning and teaching in a school using scripted curriculum materials. Findings show that when using the scripted materials, the teachers in this study still felt compelled to engage in additional planning to prepare adequately for teaching their students. This finding has implications for proposed teacher workload solutions that suggest teacher curriculum planning can be outsourced.
