| Abstract: | ACT annually publishes score norms, also referred to as national ranks, derived from data on the most recent three cohorts of high school graduates who completed the ACT® assessment. These norms are not grade-specific and are calculated using each student's final ACT attempt in Grade 10, 11, or 12. National ranks are displayed on ACT score reports to indicate each student's performance in comparison to that of peers nationwide. The ranks represent the percentage of examinees who achieved scores at or below a given value. While the ACT is usually taken by students in 11th or 12th grade, it can be taken by younger students for purposes of talent identification. In this brief, the author reports ACT score norms for students who tested when they were in Grade 7, 8, or 9. The score norms for these earlier grade levels can help students, educators, and individuals working with talent identification programs better understand ACT scores for younger students. |
