Abstract: The Tribal Education Status Report (TESR), required under the New Mexico Indian Education Act, serves as both an accountability measure and a reflection of ongoing collaboration between the New Mexico Public Education Department (PED), school districts, charter schools, and the 23 sovereign tribal nations within the state. The TESR provides a comprehensive overview of statewide efforts to support Native American students, highlighting educational outcomes, challenges, and opportunities for growth. It is designed not only to report data but to deepen understanding of how state, district, and Tribal partnerships can work together to advance equitable, culturally and linguistically responsive education for Native American students. This report is intended to serve as a practical resource for tribal leaders, district administrators, educators, and policymakers. Each section aligns with the reporting areas established in statute and regulation (22-23A-7 NMSA 1978; 6.35.2.13 NMAC), presenting both statewide data and locally submitted information from school districts and charter schools. Each year, the TESR provides a look at how Native American students are performing academically and socially across key indicators--such as achievement, attendance, safety, graduation, and cultural programming. By examining this data, families, educators, tribal leaders, policymakers, and students themselves can identify strengths and areas for growth, advocate for culturally responsive education, and ensure that public education systems honor the government-to-government relationship with tribes. By examining statewide performance alongside district-level examples, the report offers a holistic view of progress and areas where continued effort is needed.
