| Abstract: | In its 20th year, the "Fall 2025 Snapshot on International Student Enrollment" presents the responses of 828 U.S. higher education institutions on international student enrollments for the 2025/26 academic year. The report, conducted by IIE and ten partner higher education associations, complements "Open Doors 2025," which provides comprehensive data on international students from the previous year (2024/25). As the Fall 2025 Snapshot Survey represents a subset of the nearly 3,000 institutions surveyed by "Open Doors," the full picture of 2025/26 enrollment will be analyzed in "Open Doors 2026." The findings of the "Fall 2025 Snapshot" indicate that international students study at colleges and universities throughout the United States. The overall number of international students studying in the United States remains stable, with trends varying by academic levels. U.S. institutions looking ahead to future semesters remain committed to attracting students from across the world to their campuses, with 84% of colleges and universities noting their commitment to recruiting international students. Part of this report outlines the various strategies that U.S. higher education institutions use to recruit international students to the United States. The findings from the "Fall 2025 Snapshot" provide an understanding of the current state of academic mobility to the U.S., and highlights U.S. higher education institutions' commitment to international student mobility. The vast majority of institutions recognize the benefits of having international students in their student body, with international students contributing approximately $55 billion to the U.S. economy as of 2024. |
