| Abstract: | This paper provides a snapshot of apprenticeship and traineeship contracts of training across Australia. It presents statistics on contract commencements, recommencements, completions, cancellations and withdrawals as well as contracts currently in training up until 30 June 2025, derived from the latest National Apprentice and Trainee Collection. Highlights include: (1) There were 307,080 active (in-training) apprentice and trainee contracts nationally, with almost three-quarters in trade occupations. The total number of in-training contracts decreased by 11.3% from 30 June 2024. Trade contracts decreased by 7.3%, to 221,510, while non-trade contracts declined by 20.2%, to 85,550; (2) Trade commencements declined by 29.2% and completions increased by 26.9% overall, continuing a general upward trend since the June quarter 2023. Trade cancellations and withdrawals declined by 0.6 % overall; and (3) Non-trade commencements decreased by 26.5% and completions decreased by 11.0% overall. Non-trade cancellations and withdrawals decreased by 13.9% overall. |
