| Abstract: | This article discusses an ignored problem--the plight of infants and toddlers in foster care who find themselves hospitalized. A majority of the children in foster care will be hospitalized for medical treatment while in foster care because they are more likely to have serious medical problems or developmental disabilities than their age peers. Building on the large body of research concerning the difficulties faced by all young children in the hospital, this article uses real cases from a children's hospital to illustrate the challenges that young children, their families, and their care providers confront while children are in the hospital. |
