| Abstract: | The purpose of the study was to find out the administrative support factors that determined the re-admission of teenage mothers in secondary schools in Kenya. The objectives that guided the study were: to determine the role of head teachers in implementing re-admission of teenage mothers, to determine the material support given to teenage mothers after re-admission, and to find out the role of the guidance and counselling department in retention of teenage mothers in school. The findings indicated that the head teachers played a role by inviting girls who had dropped out of school due to pregnancy and gave them permission to go home whenever it was sought. Teenage mothers were encouraged to take part in games and the guidance and counselling department had counselling programs in place that provided the much needed psychosocial support to the teenage mothers. However, there was not much in terms of the material support that teenage mothers received in school apart from the provision of text books. The study recommended that there is need to strengthen the guidance and counselling department to improve retention of teenage mothers in school. |
