| Abstract: | Problem-solving ability was one of the competencies that students had to have, but it became more important when learning mathematics. Quite a lot of research has studied this ability, but not much has studied how to optimise it, especially using didactical design research based on lesson study. Participants in this research were 10 students (12-15 years old) at a private junior high school in Indonesia. The researcher was the main instrument with several additional instruments, such as didactic design of number patterns, observation sheets of students' problemsolving abilities, semi-structured interviews, and documentation studies. The data was processed using qualitative analysis. The research results revealed that didactic design was able to optimise students' problem-solving abilities. This was because learning activities in didactic design were structured based on students' hobbies or interests in learning. This research then recommended that teachers develop didactic designs that suit students' needs in order to be able to develop students' competencies optimally. |
