Abstract (English): Gnathostomiasis is a zoonotic parasitic disease due to some species of the Gnathostoma helminths - genus, it has a wide clinical presentation and its diagnosis is a challenge. Tropical and subtropical countries are endemic, and the transmission is related with eating raw or inadequately cooked meat from fresh water animals. The increasing global tourism, in addition to eating exotic foods have been induced a big rise in cases of the disease, however in our country has not reported any confirmed case of gnathostomiasis previously. We report the case of a 63 years-old Colombian man with an international travel history, who presented with gastrointestinal symptoms, during the hospital stay, develops a cutaneous lesion on the upper right abdominal cuadrant, later in that area, a tiny larva was found. A morphological study allows its identification as Gnathostoma spinigerum. This article describes the principles, etiology, pathogenic cycle and treatment of this disease with special considerations on our patient's features. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
