Abstract (English): The musculo-skeletal diseases constitut an important health problems all over the world, it will increases as population oldness with impact in all aspect of life of the society and fundamentally in the healt systems. The musculo-skeletal disorders are common causes of pain and disability in the elderly. The present review summarizes the principally musculo-skeletal pathologies, as the osteoporosis, osteoarthritis, sarcopenia, rheumatism of soft tissue, fibromyalgia, crystal-associated arthritis, late beginning systemic lupus erythematosus, polymyalgia rheumatic and rheumatoid arthritis. It is also discused the management the musculoskeletal pain and the adequated pharmacological treatment to be considered in the elderly. It's conclude that the musculo-skeletal pain is a common cause of disability in the elderly and the adequate diagnostic and therapeutic management is vital importance by the changes that occur in this population secondary to aging. Abstract (Spanish): Las enfermedades músculo-esqueléticas constituyen importantes problemas de salud a nivel mundial, lo cual aumentará a medida que envejece la población con un impacto en todas la fasetas de la vida de la sociedad, y fundamentalmente en los sistemas de salud. Estas afecciones músculo-esqueléticas son causa frecuente de dolor y discapacidad en los ancianos. En esta revisión se exponen brevemente las principales patologías músculo-esqueléticas, tales como la osteoporosis, la osteoartritis, la sarcopenia, el reumatismo de tejidos blandos, la fibromialgia, las artropatías por cristales, el lupus eritomatoso sistémico de inicio tardío, la polimilagia reumática y la artritis reumatoide, así como se aborda el manejo del dolor músculo-esquelético y el adecuado tratamientofarmacológico a considerar en los ancianos. Se concluye que el dolor asociado a las afecciones músculo-esqueléticas es una causa frecuente de discapacidad en los ancianos, por lo que el diagnóstico diferencial de estas y su adecuado manejo terapéutico son de vital importancia por los cambios que se presentan en este grupo poblacional secundarios al envejecimiento.
