Abstract (English): In the present study a comparative study between iron and aluminum as electrode materials for the electrocoagulation process of vinasse was carried out, to achieve more efficient separation of solids used as corrosion inhibitors, and color removal as a quality parameter of the process. The stillage is obtained as wastewater from the Argeo Martinez sugar complex in Guantanamo province. It was determined that aluminum electrodes are separated more solids than with iron and less energy consumption obtained. The technical and economic feasible value of the current density was 0.195 A/cm2 . With increasing current density results in greater amount of solids in the foam, while the solid that precipitates remains practically constant regardless of the type of electrode material. Pilot tests were conducted to determine the effect of the process variables: density, electrolysis time and pH dissolution in the color removal. With aluminum electrodes had the highest color removal (83,53 %), to: current density 0.159 A/cm2 , time 7 min and pH 4.42, resulting the best electrode material. The results showed that aluminium was the most costreducing material, yielding an operational cost of $ 87.76 • 10-3 /kg and the energy consumption of 5.625•10-4 kW . h/g of the solids obtaine, while the cost for iron was $ 198.921 • 10-3 /kg and the energy consumption of 8.46 •10-4 kW . h/g of the solids obtained. Abstract (Spanish): En la presente investigación se desarrolló un estudio comparativo entre el hierro y el aluminio, utilizados como materiales de electrodo en el proceso de electrocoagulación de la vinaza, para lograr la separación más eficiente de los sólidos que se utilizan como inhibidores de la corrosión y de la remoción de color como parámetro de calidad del proceso. La vinaza se obtiene como residuo del complejo azucarero Argeo Martínez de la provincia de Guantánamo. Se determinó que con electrodos de aluminio se separan más sólidos que con los de hierro y se logra menor consumo de energía. El valor técnico y económicamente factible de la densidad de corriente fue de 0,195 A/cm2 . Con el aumento de esta se obtiene mayor cantidad de sólidos en la espuma, mientras que el sólido que precipita permanece prácticamente constante independientemente del tipo de material utilizado en el electrodo. Se realizaron experimentos para determinar el efecto de algunas variables del proceso: densidad de corriente, tiempo de electrólisis y pH de la disolución, en la remoción de color. Con los electrodos de aluminio se obtuvo la mayor remoción de color (83,53 %), para una densidad de corriente 0,159 A/cm2 , un tiempo 7 min y pH 4,42, por lo que resultó el mejor material de electrodo. Además, el aluminio fue el material más económico, con él se alcanzó un costo de operación de $ 87,76 • 10-3 /kg, y un consumo de energía de 5625 • 10-4 kW.h/g de sólidos removidos, mientras que para el hierro el costo fue de $ 198,92 •1 0-3 /kg y el consumo de energía de 8460 • 10-4 kW.h/g de sólidos obtenidos.
