Abstract (English):	The Cuban Public Health Ministry has declared that to achieve the constant increment of knowledge in the health care sector professionals, it is necessary to carry out a group of occupational training actions guided to such an aim and that contribute to the development of this sphere. In this respect, occupational training for health managing cadres and their reserves have a great importance, so in this work the historical backgrounds, the characteristics, the objective and the importance of this process are exposed, what is evidently indispensable to undertake the inminent tasks of the sector at the present time. Abstract (Spanish):	El Ministerio de Salud Pública de Cuba ha pronunciado que para lograr el incremento constante de los conocimientos en los profesionales del sector sanitario, es necesario llevar a cabo un conjunto de acciones de superación orientadas a tal fin y que contribuyan al desarrollo de dicha esfera. Al respecto, la superación de cuadros directivos y reservas de la salud posee gran importancia, por lo que en este trabajo se exponen los antecedentes históricos, las características, el objetivo y la importancia de dicho proceso, que evidentemente resulta imprescindible para acometer las inminentes tareas del sector en la actualidad.
