Abstract (English): The promulgation and discussion about the epistemological basis of a scientific discipline allows us to know the principles upon which this gives rise, growth and direction to the knowledge in such field. The positions expressed by the inductive method and the method of critical rationalism or falsificationist have raised two very close patterns to the work made from epidemiological discipline. Considering even the criticisms made by Karl Popper, author of falsifiability concept, to the inductive approach we could think of mutual exclusion of such approaches when addressing a study problem. It is pertinent to reflect on the application of one or another position, being aware of the advantages and limitations of each we can get a synergy of this parity that approach us to the real explanation of the health problems that occur in the population.
