| Abstract (English): |
In many of the countries of Latin America as it also happens in Honduras, the surgical delay is characteristically something inevitable and accepted. A considerable large segment of the surgical delay cases are those in need of Reconstructive Surgery procedures. This makes evident of the need of a service platform in a reliable and consistent manner. Probably in Honduras one of the best sources for this platform, both logistics and humanitarian, is the National Autonomous University, which through the PUMAS project offers comprehensive health services of the highest quality, with the particular characteristic that they take place in an academic control based on "learning by serving" It is interesting the turn of the provincial hospital throughout the process of organization, implementation and follow up of the mission, to become an institution that will now permanently be a center for local clinical assessment and distance consultation of these services. In this way it was created a link between the population in need and reconstructive health services, becoming one of the most remarkable achievements of PUMAS. Finally, the objective is not the body of cases, but to individually provide the best integral service as possible. Additionally we wanted to show that the humanistic attitude and volunteering as instruments of good service, are still valid today. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |

En muchos países de Latinoamérica, como también ocurre en Honduras, la mora quirúrgica es algo inevitable y aceptado. Gran parte está representada por la necesidad de procedimientos de Cirugía Reconstructiva, una sección de servicios que habitualmente resulta muy limitada. Esto hace que las necesidades permanentes de las poblaciones requieran de plataformas de servicio que den apoyo confiable y constante. Probablemente en Honduras una de las mejores fuentes para esta plataforma tanto logística como humanitaria es la Universidad Nacional Autónoma, que a través del proyecto PUMAS busca ofrecer servicios de salud integrales y calidad mediante misiones quirúrgicas que cambien la calidad de vida de las personas sin nivel socioeconómico para acceder a servicios especializados reconstructivos, y con la característica particular de que esas misiones transcurren en un ambiente académico-asistencial con fundamento en "aprender, sirviendo" Es interesante el giro que tuvo la institución hospitalaria de provincia durante todo el proceso de organización, ejecución y seguimiento de la brigada, al transformarse en una sede que ahora, de forma permanente, será centro de valoración local y de consulta de servicios con expedientes a distancia, creando un puente entre la población necesitada y los servicios de salud reconstructivos, y siendo así este uno de los logros más destacables de PUMAS.
