Abstract (English):	Suicide is a serious public health problem characterized as the act of purposely killing oneself, having increased in the last 45 years by about 60%. Given the importance of the theme, the study was carried out with the objective of verifying in the literature the main epidemiological aspects of suicide in society and the preventive actions performed out by health professionals. This is an integrative review of the literature with data search performed through the Virtual Health Library (VHL) in the Lilacs and Medline databases. The descriptors used were: Primary prevention, Suicide and Attempted suicide. Complete results were included in Portuguese and English, published between 2010 and 2017, and excluded studies without relevance. 11 studies were selected, in addition to consultation on the website of the Brazilian Association of Psychiatry and World Health Organization. The study showed that there was an increase in the amount of suicide and suicide attempts in the last years. As for the profile of the victims, deaths are more frequent in males, although females have more attempts. The main forms of prevention identified were health education, identification of risk factors, and monitoring and psychological support by health professionals. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
Abstract (Portuguese):	O suicídio é um grave problema de saúde pública caracterizado como o ato de matar-se de forma proposital, tendo aumentado nos últimos 45 anos em cerca de 60%. Dada a importância do tema, realizou-se o estudo com o objetivo de verificar na literatura os principais aspectos epidemiológicos do suicídio na sociedade e as ações preventivas realizadas por profissionais de saúde. Trata-se de uma revisão integrativa da literatura com busca de dados realizada via Biblioteca Virtual em Saúde (BVS) nas bases de dados Lilacs e Medline. Os descritores utilizados foram: Prevenção primária, Suicídio e Tentativa de suicídio. Foram incluídos resultados completos, em português e inglês, publicados entre 2010 e 2017, e excluídos estudos sem relevância. 11 estudos foram selecionados, aém de consulta no site da Associação Brasileira de Psiquiatria e Organização Mundial da Saúde. O estudo permitiu observar que houve aumento da quantidade de suicídio e tentativas de suicídio nos últimos anos. Quanto ao perfil das vítimas, os óbitos são mais frequentes no sexo masculino embora as mulheres possuam mais tentativas. As principais formas de prevenção identificadas foram a educação em saúde, identificação dos fatores de risco e acompanhamento e apoio psicológico por parte dos profissionais de saúde.
