Abstract (English): Introduction: Cigarette smoking in adolescents is an increasingly frequent problem worldwide; this habit is associated with various factors among which advertising is found in its different forms and its prevention implies awareness in different scenarios including the school. Objective: to determine the influence of advertising and information provided in the school environment in the consumption of cigarettes in adolescents of 6 public educational institutions of the city of Palmira - Colombia in 2018 Method: Cross-sectional study, in 205 students of six public schools which were selected through a stratified random sampling. The analysis was performed in SPSS 24, the qualitative variables were expressed as proportions and the quantitative variables as median and averages with their respective dispersion measures; The difference in proportions was established with the chi2 test. To determine the advertising and school information items related to cigarette consumption, raw and adjusted Odds ratio were calculated, considering a P value <0.05 as statistically significant. Results: The prevalence of cigarette smoking was 18.5%, being the most frequent consumption in women; In the final model, risk factors were once received to receive an offer to consume free cigarettes (OR: 6.7 IC95% 3.0-14.6) and protective factor to listen to messages against tobacco (OR: 0.38 IC95% 0.17-0.87) Conclusions: Some forms of publicity about and against tobacco are related to cigarette smoking.
