Abstract (English): Introduction: Alternative medicine is widely used today, thanks to its natural origin, absence of adverse effects and economic accessibility. The objective of this research was to compare the efficacy of the use of Arnica montana in the pre, trans and postoperative period in the Surgery Clinic of the UAO Dental Care Unit. Methodology: For this, an experimental investigations was carried out in the surgery clinic, in the period October-December 2019, in a sample of 40 patients, distributed in two groups: study, treated with arnica montana and control, who were prescribed conventional analgesics. Results: In all the patients to whom the homeopathic medicine was applied, the intensity of pain was zero in the applied numerical scale, with respect to inflammation in the categorical scale, in all the patients the effectiveness of the alternative treatment was evidenced in terms of healing on the visual analog scale, the total number of patients treated with arnica montana four presented almost excellent healing, while the rest complied with the parameters established in the postoperative period. Conclusion: The application of the natural medicine allowed a better evolution of the patients in all the aspects evaluated in relation to those treated in conventional way. Therefore, a proposal was made for the use of arnica montana in surgical procedures at UAO UNIANDES. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
Abstract (Spanish): Introducción: La medicina alternativa es ampliamente utilizada actualmente, gracias a su origen natural, ausencia de efectos adversos y accesibilidad económica. La presente investigación tuvo como objetivo comparar la eficacia de uso del árnica montana en el pre, trans y post operatorio en la Clínica de Cirugía de la Unidad de Atención Odontológica (UAO). Metodología: Para ello se realizó una investigación experimental en la clínica de Cirugía, en el periodo octubrediciembre 2019, en una muestra de 40 pacientes, distribuidos en dos grupos: estudio, tratado con Árnica montana y control al cual se le prescribieron analgésicos convencionales. Resultados: en el total de los pacientes a quienes se aplicó el medicamento homeopático la intensidad del dolor fue cero en la escala numérica aplicada, respecto a la inflamación en la escala categórica, en el total de pacientes se evidenció la efectividad del tratamiento alternativo y en cuanto a la cicatrización en la escala visual analógica del total de pacientes tratados con árnica montana 4 presentaron una cicatrización casi excelente, mientras que el resto cumplió con los parámetros establecidos en el post operatorio. Conclusión: la aplicación del medicamento natural permitió una mejor evolución de los pacientes en todos los aspectos evaluados en relación con aquellos tratados de manera convencional. Por lo que se realizó una propuesta para la utilización del árnica montana en los procederes quirúrgicos en la UAO UNIANDES. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
