| Abstract (English): |
Objective: to trace the epidemiological profile of suicide attempts that occurred in the city of Ipatinga - MG in the period from 2019 to 2021. Methods: descriptive research with crosssectional, retrospective, analytical design, with data collection from the Information System on Diseases and Notifications (SINAN) between the years 2019 to 2021. Results: 905 occurrences were recorded, and of these, 73.6% were female, with a mean age of 27.0 ± 12.4 years, 64.2% studied up to high school and 72.7% were not married. Almost half of the suicide attempts occurred in 2019, 43.0%, and in 22.8% of cases the person had already attempted suicide before. The most common types of attempts were poisoning (83.4%). A significant association was found between a greater chance of suicide attempts by poisoning and being female, and of hanging by men. Conclusion: the epidemiological profile showed a higher prevalence of the female population, and that the vast majority use poisoning as the method of choice. However, the act is not restricted only to this specific public or age group, and is related to several factors, requiring constant vigilance and public coping policies. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
