Abstract (English): Objective: Determine the prevalence of breast cancer in male patients treated at the Breast Cancer Detection and Diagnosis Center (CDDCM) of the ISSSTE. Method: Observational, cross-sectional, retrospective study. All men aged between 18 and 90 years with palpable breast and/or axillary nodule, increased breast volume, nipple discharge, mastalgia, and changes in the skin of the breast who underwent mammography and/or ultrasound studies and biopsy at the CDDCM from January 1, 2019, to March 31, 2023, were included. Descriptive statistical methods were used for data analysis. Results: Forty-two patients were studied. The palpable nodule was the most frequent symptom in 95.2% of the patients. Twenty-eight-point six percent of patients required image-guided biopsy for histopathological correlation. The prevalence of breast cancer was 4%. Conclusion: The prevalence of breast cancer in men was higher than that reported by national reference centers. Breast image studies in men are performed in 100% of cases for diagnostic purposes. Spreading awareness of breast pathology in men will facilitate timely cancer detection in this population. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
Abstract (Spanish): Objetivo: Determinar la prevalencia de cáncer de mama en pacientes de sexo masculino atendidos en el Centro de Detección y Diagnóstico del Cáncer de Mama (CDDCM) del ISSSTE. Método: Estudio observacional, transversal, retrospectivo. Se incluyeron todos los hombres de entre 18 y 90 años con nódulo palpable en mama y/o axila, aumento del volumen mamario, secreción por el pezón, mastalgia, cambios en la piel de la mama, que se realizaron estudios de mastografía y/o ultrasonido y biopsia en el CDDCM desde el 1 de enero del 2019 al 31 de marzo del 2023. Se utilizaron métodos de estadística descriptiva para analizar los resultados. Resultados: Se estudiaron 42 hombres. El nódulo palpable fue el síntoma más frecuente en el 95.2% de los pacientes. El 28.6% de los pacientes requirieron biopsia guiada por imagen para correlación histopatológica. La prevalencia del cáncer de mama fue del 4%. Conclusión: La prevalencia de cáncer de mama en hombres fue mayor que la reportada por los centros de referencia nacional. Los estudios de imagen mamaria en hombres se realizan en el 100% de los casos con finalidad diagnóstica. Difundir el conocimiento de la patología mamaria en hombres facilitará la detección oportuna del cáncer en esta población. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
