Abstract (English):	Chronic kidney disease is one of the most prevalent diseases in our country, with a significant proportion of patients on renal replacement therapy with hemodialysis. Within this group, arteriovenous fistulas, both native and prosthetic, represent the main vascular access. Ultrasonography has gained an essential role in the construction and monitoring of these fistulas and is used in the presurgical assessment and surgical plan. It also helps identify predictors of early dysfunction and maturation failures, as well as detecting subsequent complications like stenosis and thrombosis. Therefore, ultrasound assessment and bedside ultrasound, or POCUS, are essential resources for physicians who care for patients on renal replacement therapy. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
Abstract (Spanish):	La enfermedad renal crónica representa una de las patologías más prevalentes en nuestro país, con una proporción significativa de pacientes en terapia de reemplazo renal mediante hemodiálisis. Dentro de este grupo, las fístulas arteriovenosas, tanto nativas como protésicas, representan el acceso vascular principal. En el proceso de construcción y monitoreo de las fístulas, la ultrasonografía ha adquirido un rol fundamental, siendo empleada en la valoración prequirúrgica y planteamiento quirúrgico. Además, permite la identificación de predictores de disfunción temprana y fallas en la maduración, así como la detección de complicaciones subsiguientes como estenosis y trombosis. Por lo tanto, la evaluación ultrasonográfica y el uso de la ultrasonografía a la cabecera del paciente o POCUS, se convierten en recursos indispensables para el médico que atiende a pacientes en terapia de reemplazo renal.
