| Abstract (English): | The article addresses the implicit editorial barriers that affect the scientific visibility of manuscripts from low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) in global medicine. It documents geoeconomic biases that discourage the publication of research from these regions, despite its quality being comparable to that of more developed countries. Among the manifestations of this bias are the presumption of quality based on the institution of origin, non-native writing style, and the perception that certain studies are "local" and therefore irrelevant. It concludes that there is a need to review editorial practices and diversify review committees to ensure equitable representation and truly global medicine. [Extracted from the article] |
| Abstract (Spanish): | El artículo aborda las barreras editoriales implícitas que afectan la visibilidad científica de manuscritos provenientes de países de ingresos bajos y medianos (LMICs) en la medicina global. Se documentan sesgos geoeconómicos que desincentivan la publicación de investigaciones de estas regiones, a pesar de su calidad comparable a la de países más desarrollados. Entre las manifestaciones de este sesgo se encuentran la presunción de calidad basada en la institución de origen, el estilo de redacción no nativo y la percepción de que ciertos estudios son "locales" y, por lo tanto, irrelevantes. Se concluye que es necesario revisar las prácticas editoriales y diversificar los comités de revisión para garantizar una representación equitativa y una medicina verdaderamente global.
