BACKGROUND: The amelanotic melanoma is a type of atypical melanoma that mainly appears in people over 50 years old. CLINICAL CASE: A 62-year-old male patient, originally from and resident in Tamaulipas, Mexico, with a history of type 2 diabetes treated with oral hypoglycemic agents and facial actinic keratosis on the scalp and lower lip. He had an erythematous neoplasia in the scaphoid region of his left ear, diagnosed as amelanotic melanoma. CONCLUSIONS: The amelanotic melanoma constitutes a diagnostic challenge. In most cases, it is diagnosed late with a poor prognosis. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |

ANTECEDENTES: El melanoma amelanótico es un tipo de melanoma atípico que se manifiesta, principalmente, en personas mayores de 50 años. CASO CLÍNICO: Paciente masculino de 62 años, oriundo y residente de Tamaulipas, México, con antecedentes de diabetes tipo 2 en tratamiento con hipoglucemiantes orales y queratosis actínicas faciales, en la piel cabelluda y el labio inferior. Tenía una neoformación eritematosa en la región escafoidea de la oreja izquierda, diagnosticada como melanoma amelanótico. CONCLUSIONES: El melanoma amelanótico constituye un reto diagnóstico que, en la mayoría de los casos, se establece de forma tardía con mal pronóstico. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
