Abstract (English): BACKGROUND: The amelanotic melanoma is a type of atypical melanoma that mainly appears in people over 50 years old. CLINICAL CASE: A 62-year-old male patient, originally from and resident in Tamaulipas, Mexico, with a history of type 2 diabetes treated with oral hypoglycemic agents and facial actinic keratosis on the scalp and lower lip. He had an erythematous neoplasia in the scaphoid region of his left ear, diagnosed as amelanotic melanoma. CONCLUSIONS: The amelanotic melanoma constitutes a diagnostic challenge. In most cases, it is diagnosed late with a poor prognosis. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
