| Abstract (English): |
The article addresses the importance of coding following the diagnosis of chronic kidney disease (CKD), specifically the code N18.9 from the ICD-10, and the role of clinical laboratories in this process. It emphasizes that proper coding of CKD is crucial for improving its detection and management, as it is associated with slower disease progression and greater use of nephroprotective therapies. Despite advancements in the identification and coding of CKD, it is noted that many diagnosed patients do not have appropriate coding, which limits effective monitoring and treatment. The article suggests that collaboration among all stakeholders in the healthcare system, including clinical laboratories, is essential to optimize the care and treatment of CKD. | Abstract (Spanish): |
