| Abstract (English): |
Objective: This pilot study aimed to disentangle the betweenpatient and withinpatient effects of emotion regulation (ER) on distress and to explore the role of interpersonal problems as a moderator of these effects. Method: 119 patients with heterogeneous clinical conditions completed the Inventory of Interpersonal Problems (IIP32), the Outcome Questionnaire (OQ30), and the State Difficulties in Emotion Regulation Scale (SDERS) at the beginning of treatment. They also responded to the OQ30 and SDERS every two sessions. Results: Multilevel models revealed significant betweenand withinpatient effects of ER on distress. Additionally, significant interaction models were found for the crosslevel model of ER and for interpersonal problems (agency and communion). In particular, colder and more dominant patients showed a stronger impact of ER fluctuations on general distress. Conclusion: These findings support the role of ER as a mechanism of change, and suggest interpersonal problems may guide the selection of more personalized interventions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
