| Abstract (English): | Objective: This pilot study aimed to disentangle the betweenpatient and withinpatient effects of emotion regulation (ER) on distress and to explore the role of interpersonal problems as a moderator of these effects. Method: 119 patients with heterogeneous clinical conditions completed the Inventory of Interpersonal Problems (IIP32), the Outcome Questionnaire (OQ30), and the State Difficulties in Emotion Regulation Scale (SDERS) at the beginning of treatment. They also responded to the OQ30 and SDERS every two sessions. Results: Multilevel models revealed significant betweenand withinpatient effects of ER on distress. Additionally, significant interaction models were found for the crosslevel model of ER and for interpersonal problems (agency and communion). In particular, colder and more dominant patients showed a stronger impact of ER fluctuations on general distress. Conclusion: These findings support the role of ER as a mechanism of change, and suggest interpersonal problems may guide the selection of more personalized interventions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
| Abstract (Spanish): | Objetivo: El estudio piloto buscó desagregar los efectos entre pacientes e intrapacientes de la regulación emocional (RE) sobre el resultado del tratamiento y explorar los problemas interpersonales como moderador de estos efectos. Método: 119 pacientes con condiciones clínicas heterogéneas completaron el Inventario de Problemas Interpersonales (IIP32), el Cuestionario de Resultados (OQ30) y la Escala de Dificultades de Estado de Regulación Emocional Estado (SDERS) al comienzo de los tratamientos. Asimismo, respondieron al OQ30 y al SDERS cada dos sesiones. Resultados: Los modelos revelaron efectos significativos entre e intrapacientes de la RE, así como interacciones del modelo transnivel de la RE y de los problemas interpersonales (agencia y comunión). En concreto, personas más frías y dominantes tendrán un impacto mayor de las fluctuaciones de RE sobre el malestar. Conclusiones: Estos hallazgos respaldan a la RE como mecanismo de cambio, y sugieren que los problemas interpersonales permitirán la elección de intervenciones más personalizadas.
