Abstract (English): Introduction: patellar fractures represent a clinical challenge due to the need to restore knee function by minimizing surgical trauma through the minimally invasive fixation technique (MIS) being an alternative seeking to improve clinical and functional results without so much aggression to the tissues. Material and methods: a retrospective study was conducted of patients with displaced patella fractures treated with the MIS technique between January 2015 and December 2020, evaluated over a five-year period using scales of pain, range of motion and functionality. Results: the patients analyzed were 20 who showed a rapid and sustained recovery, with mean EVA scores of 0.2 and IKS of 95 (average) at the end of the follow-up. No complications such as infections or failure of the fixing material were reported. Conclusions: the MIS technique for patella fractures offers numerous benefits, including less trauma to tissues and rapid functional recovery. This study demonstrates a superior alternative to traditional methods of open fixation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
Abstract (Spanish): Introducción: las fracturas de rótula representan un desafío clínico debido a la necesidad de restaurar la función de la rodilla minimizando el trauma quirúrgico, por medio de la técnica de fijación mínimamente invasiva (MIS) siendo una alternativa que busca mejorar los resultados clínicos y funcionales sin tanta agresión a los tejidos. Material y métodos: se realizó un estudio retrospectivo de pacientes con fracturas de rótula desplazadas tratadas con la técnica MIS entre Enero de 2015 y Diciembre de 2020, evaluados durante un período de cinco años mediante escalas de dolor, rango de movimiento y funcionalidad. Resultados: los pacientes analizados fueron 20 que mostraron una recuperación rápida y sostenida, con puntuaciones medias de EVA de 0.2 y de IKS de 95 al final del seguimiento. No se reportaron complicaciones como infecciones o fallos del material de fijación. Conclusiones: la técnica MIS para fracturas de rótula ofrece numerosos beneficios, incluyendo menor trauma a los tejidos y recuperación funcional rápida. Este estudio demuestra una alternativa más a los métodos tradicionales de fijación abierta. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
