Abstract (English): Essential oils are complex mixtures of volatile compounds with recognized antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and regenerative activities. This review examines their immunomodulatory and tissue repair roles by integrating recent experimental and clinical evidence. The main cellular mechanisms are discussed, including regulation of NF-κB, Nrf2, and MAPK pathways and modulation of pro- and anti-inflammatory cytokines. Biomedical innovations such as nanoencapsulation and essential-oil-enriched biomaterials are also highlighted for their enhanced biocompatibility and regenerative potential. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
Abstract (Spanish): Los aceites esenciales son mezclas complejas de compuestos volátiles con reconocida actividad antioxidante, antiinflamatoria y regenerativa. Esta revisión analiza su papel inmunomodulador y reparador tisular, integrando evidencias experimentales y clínicas recientes. Se describen los principales mecanismos celulares involucrados, incluyendo la regulación de las vías NF-κB, Nrf2 γ MAPK, así como la modulación de citoquinas pro y antiinflamatorias. Además, se destacan innovaciones biomédicas como la nanoencapsulación y los biomateriales enriquecidos con aceites esenciales, que potencian su biocompatibilidad y efecto regenerativo.
