The kidney failure risk equation (KFRE) has emerged as a valuable predictive tool to assess the risk of kidney failure in patients with CKD stages 3-5. This narrative review presents a comprehensive analysis of the KFRE's development, validation, and clinical applications, and highlights its role in predicting disease progression, guiding nephrology referrals, and planning vascular access creation.
