Abstract (English):	The labial frenum plays an important role in lip stability and smile aesthetics, but when it presents abnormal insertion or hypertrophy it may cause midline diastema, restricted movements, oral hygiene difficulties, and psychological impact. Frenectomy is the indicated treatment in these cases because it restores function, periodontal health, and aesthetic harmony. This paper reports on the clinical case of a nine-year-old patient treated at the Dentistry Clinic of the University of Vassouras, who presented hypertrophy of the upper labial frenum associated with diastema and aesthetic discomfort. The procedure was performed using the Archer technique with two hemostatic forceps for traction of the frenum, followed by excision with scalpel and simple suturing. Postoperative recovery progressed favorably with satisfactory healing and significant functional and aesthetic improvement. The literature emphasizes the importance of early diagnosis, individualized planning, and interdisciplinary management. Early surgical intervention may prevent complications, improve aesthetics, promote oral health, and contribute to the patient's quality of life. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
Abstract (Portuguese):	O freio labial desempenha papel importante na estabilidade dos lábios e na estética do sorriso, porém quando apresenta inserção anômala ou hipertrofia pode gerar diastema interincisal, restrição de movimentos, comprometimento funcional e impacto psicológico. A frenectomia é o tratamento de escolha nesses casos, possibilitando a restauração da função e da harmonia estética. O presente trabalho tem como objetivo relatar um caso clínico de paciente de nove anos, atendida na Clínica Odontológica da Universidade de Vassouras, que apresentava hipertrofia do freio labial superior associada a diastema interincisal e desconforto estético. O procedimento realizado foi a frenectomia labial superior pela técnica de Archer, com uso de duas pinças hemostáticas para tração e delimitação do freio, seguida de excisão com bisturi e sutura simples. O pós-operatório transcorreu sem intercorrências, apresentando cicatrização satisfatória e melhora funcional e estética significativa. A literatura confirma a relevância da frenectomia em casos de inserção anômala do freio, destacando a necessidade de diagnóstico precoce, planejamento individualizado e atuação interdisciplinar. Conclui-se que a intervenção cirúrgica precoce pôde evitar complicações futuras, favorecer a estética, a saúde periodontal e a qualidade de vida, ressaltando a importância do acompanhamento odontológico contínuo.
