Abstract (English): Introduction: The evaluation of professional competencies in general dentists is a constant concern for health systems, since the quality of the service they offer and the oral health of the population depend on it. Objective: Evaluate the professional skills of dentists at the Baire Teaching Polyclinic, during the period from September 2023 to September 2024. Method: A descriptive study was conducted with 55 dentists, linked to the community, who were working at the time of the investigation and gave their informed consent to participate. It was developed in 2 stages: first, selection of experts and identification of the competencies to be evaluated; second, evaluation of the professional competencies in the selected dentists, using previously established standards. To collect the primary data, observations were made, patients' medical records were reviewed, and a written exam was applied. The results were summarized and the percentage was applied as a summary measure. Results: Using the expert criteria method, seven professionals were selected and evaluated, achieving more than 90.0% in all cases. During the general skills assessment, 92.7% of them were found to be adequate. Conclusion: Significant results were found in the evaluation of professional skills in the dentists of Baire Teaching Polyclinic, with the majority being adequate. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
Abstract (Spanish): Introducción: La evaluación de competencias profesionales en estomatólogos generales integrales, constituye una preocupación permanente de los sistemas de salud, ya que de ello depende la calidad del servicio que ofrecen y la salud bucal de la población. Objetivo: Evaluar las competencias profesionales en estomatólogos del Policlínico Docente Baire, durante el periodo de septiembre 2023 a septiembre 2024. Método: Se realizó un estudio descriptivo, con 55 estomatólogos, vinculados a la comunidad, que se encontraron laborando en el momento de la investigación y dieron su consentimiento informado para participar. Se desarrolló en 2 momentos: primero selección de expertos e identificación de las competencias a evaluar; segundo, evaluación de las competencias profesionales en los estomatólogos seleccionados, mediante estándares previamente establecidos. Para recoger el dato primario se aplicaron observaciones, se revisaron las historias clínicas de los pacientes y se aplicó un examen escrito. Los resultados fueron resumidos y se aplicó el porciento como medida de resumen. Resultados: Por el método criterio de expertos, fueron seleccionados 7 profesionales y se evaluaron, alcanzando en todas, más de 90,0 %. Durante la evaluación general de competencias resultó adecuada un 92,7 % de ellos. Conclusión: Se encontraron resultados significativos en la evaluación de competencias profesionales en los estomatólogos del Policlínico Docente de Baire, al resultar en la mayoría adecuada.
