| Abstract (English): |
OBJECTIVE: To determine the relationship between digital device use and sleep quality in the general Mexican population. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Analytical cross-sectional study including residents in Mexico. Data collection was performed using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) and a sleep-technology questionnaire regarding daily and nighttime screen use. Pearson correlation was used to identify associations, with p < 0.05 considered statistically significant. RESULTS: There were 440 participants. The mobile phone was the most frequently used device (82.7%). Daily screen exposure longer than 6 hours was reported by 33.4% of participants, and 46.8% used devices before bedtime. Poor sleep quality (PSQI > 5) was identified in 68.4% of the sample. A significant association was found between prolonged screen exposure and poor sleep quality (p < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: Prolonged and nighttime digital device use is significantly associated with sleep disruption in the general population. These findings highlight an emerging public health concern, indicating the need for preventive strategies promoting digital hygiene and healthy sleep habits. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
