Abstract (English): The COVID-19 pandemic has negatively affected physical and mental well-being, reducing the quality of life of both pediatric patients and their families. Objective: To evaluate acute and post-infection COVID-19 symptoms in children and assess their impact on the quality of life of patients and their parents. Patients and Method: Cross-sectional study. 231 children aged 8-18 years diagnosed with long COVID-19 and their parents were included. Long COVID-19 was defined as the persistence of symptoms 3 months after the acute episode. A control group of 176 healthy children, matched for age and sex, and their parents, was also included. Demographic data and symptoms during infection and three months post-infection were recorded. Children completed the Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory (PedsQL™ 4.0, Turkish version), while parents completed the PedsQL™ Family Impact Module. Results: Fatigue (49.3%) was the most common symptom during the acute phase, followed by sore throat (39.8%), headache (39.3%), cough (27.7%), and joint pain (26.4%). 76.2% of children reported persistent symptoms, the most common being fatigue (15.9%), cough (15.3%), cognitive dysfunction (15.3%), headache (10.2%), and anosmia/ageusia (9%). According to the PedsQL™ questionnaires, children with COVID-19 and their parents showed significantly lower quality of life scores compared to controls (p < 0.001). Conclusion: COVID-19 infection negatively impacts the quality of life of both pediatric patients and their families, especially due to persistent symptoms such as attention deficit and poor academic performance. Abstract (Spanish): La pandemia de COVID-19 ha afectado negativamente el bienestar físico y mental, disminuyendo la calidad de vida tanto de los pacientes pediátricos como de sus familias. Objetivo: Evaluar los síntomas agudos y posteriores a la infección por COVID-19 en niños y analizar su impacto en la calidad de vida de los pacientes y sus padres. Pacientes y Método: Estudio transversal que incluyó a 231 niños entre 8 y 18 años diagnosticados con COVID-19 prolongado y a sus padres. Se definió como COVID-19 prolongado la persistencia de sintomas después de 3 meses del episodio agudo. Se incorporó un grupo control de 176 niños sanos, emparejados por edad y sexo, junto con sus padres. Se recopilaron datos demográficos, síntomas durante la infección y a los tres meses posteriores. Los niños completaron el Inventario de Calidad de Vida Pediátrica (PedsQL™ 4.0, versión turca), mientras que los padres completaron el Módulo de Impacto Familiar del PedsQL™. Resultados: El síntoma más común durante la fase aguda fue la fatiga (49,3%), seguido de dolor de garganta (39,8%), cefalea (39,3%), tos (27,7%) y dolor articular (26,4%). El 76,2% de los niños reportaron síntomas persistentes, siendo los más frecuentes la fatiga (15,9%), tos (15,3%), disfunciones cognitivas (15,3%), cefalea (10,2%) y anosmia/ageusia (9%). Los cuestionarios PedsQL revelaron una disminución estadísticamente significativa en la calidad de vida de los niños con COVID-19 y sus familias en comparación con el grupo control (p < 0,001). Conclusión: La infección por COVID-19 reduce la calidad de vida de los pacientes pediátricos y sus padres, especialmente debido a síntomas persistentes como el déficit de atención y el bajo rendimiento académico.
