| Abstract (English): |
Introduction: Multiple primary malignant tumors are defined as the presence of two or more distinct primary cancers in the same patient, may present simultaneously (synchronous) or at different times (metachronous). The most common malignancies in women are those of the breast and lung, but their simultaneous coexistence is rare. Clinical Case: A 64-year-old female patient detected a right breast lump during self-examination, which was studied with a biopsy confirming ductal carcinoma. During the preoperative examination, a chest x-ray was performed, which reported a left lung lump confirmed by CT, with a biopsy confirming primary lung adenocarcinoma without evidence of mediastinal lymphadenopathy or secondary lesions. At operating room, simultaneous breast and lung surgery was performed with favorable outcome. Discussion: Our article highlights the rare occurrence of synchronous primary malignancies in the lung and breast, with few reports in the medical literature. Physicians should be aware of the possibility of multiple primary malignancies in cancer patients and perform comprehensive workup to rule out a second primary tumor, which could require a different surgical approach.
