Abstract (English): Introduction: Health advocacy, also known as health defense, stands out as one of the three fundamental competencies for promoting health and involves processes such as facilitation, management and mediation, which are aimed at ensuring equitable access to services, protecting people's rights and making informed decisions. Objective: To understand the meaning of advocacy in medical education and the experiences of a group of medical school deans in this area. Methods: A qualitative study with a phenomenological approach was conducted, in which data collection was carried out through focus groups. Data analysis was inductive, based on the identification of units of meaning and the construction of thematic categories, ensuring methodological rigor and compliance with the ethical principles of research. Results: The concept of advocacy varies according to different perceptions related to health promotion, the defense of rights and quality improvement in health service provision, as well as the impression of forgetfulness that frames this concept during medical education. Conclusions: Health advocacy strengthens public health and the defense of the health rights of families and communities. This is achieved through the mediating role of physicians and health professionals. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
[ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
