| Abstract (English): |
The article focuses on three significant news items in the field of physics in Cuba and the international scientific community. First, it highlights the popular science talk given by Argentine theoretical physicist José Edelstein at the University of Havana, where he explained the central role of chance in quantum mechanics, addressing the historic debate between Einstein and Born and how recent experiments confirmed the probabilistic nature of the universe. Secondly, it reports that three Cuban students won bronze medals at the 2026 KaIPhO International Physics Olympiad, an event emphasizing theoretical physics and featuring the participation of 108 students from 16 countries. Finally, four Cuban scientists from the Center for Technological Applications and Nuclear Development (CEADEN) are recognized for their contribution to the ALICE project at CERN, which was awarded the Breakthrough Prize in Fundamental Physics for research on heavy ion collisions and cosmic rays.
