Abstract (English): Treatments for patients with dementia manifestations depend mainly on the family, on the social services and health professionals. To determine whether it must be treated and how it must be treated depends in the way in which society and professionals conceive it. If we restrict the treatment from the biological point of view, then we will have a very difficult, inexorable and progressive problem and generally when the patient's behaviour is disastrous, the family itself asks for sedatives for the sick and medicines which lessen the anxiety for the person which takes care of the sick or for the family member in charge. If we tackle it as a biopsychosocial, multicausal and multimodal problem, we could intervene to look for ways of intervention in certain psychological and social aspects to enhance and solve some problems mainly those of the handling of the disease by the family and by the person who takes care of the sick. This article reviews key concepts about rehabilitation, recovery of functions and offsetting strategies mainly addressed to improve the quality of the patient's life. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
