| Abstract (English): | OBJECTIVE To describe The Fausto López Infante (FLI) Suture, a useful and practical technique used for reparation of septal mucosa defects and tears occurring during surgery in patients who underwent nasal surgical procedures with septal manipulation. MATERIALS AND METHODS A prospective and observational case-series study was conducted, in which 19 consecutive patients who underwent nasal surgery with septal manipulation were evaluated. These patients had accidental transoperative septal mucosa tears which were predominantly linear Mucosa tears where repaired using The FLI Suture while postoperative results and patient evaluation was analyzed by taping follow-up nasal endoscopies, averaging a 3 to 12 period. RESULTS Postoperative analysis showed an intact septal mucosa, with the absence of additional mucosal tears or septal hematomas. The main complaint was nasal obstruction presenting during the first 12 hours after surgery, characterizing the typical postoperative symptom of patients with intranasal surgical procedures. CONCLUSIONS The FLI Suture turns out to be a simplified technique to reproduce for successful transoperative repair of linear septal mucosa tears in patients who undergo the large number of different rhinoseptal procedures. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
