| Abstract (English): | Introduction: The congenital malformations (CM) of the central nervous system (CNS) are caused by an insult to the embryo during the pregnancy. Its etiology is multi factorial. They occur in approximately 0.1-0.9% of births. Objective: To present the frequency and findings through magnetic resonance (MR) and computerized axial tomography (CAT) of the CNS malformations and the rachis in pediatric patients. Material and method: Longitudinal, prospective study, where 81 patients with CNS and quisrachis malformations were studied, 49 of them were male and the other 32 were female. They were evaluated through neuro-clinics, MR studies and in some of the patients with TC. The classification of Boyer R was used. (modified). Results: There were findings of: 1. Organogenesis disorders: a) disorders of closing of the neural tube: 37 cases; b)Diverticulation and segmentation disorders: two patients. c)Furrows formation disorders, and of cellular migration: ten patients. d) Malformations and cysts of the posterior fossa: 46 patients. 2. Histogenesis disorders of the: five cases. e) Other cerebral malformations: 113. f) Congenital malformations of the spine and of the spinal marrow: 29 cases. VII. Vascular malformations: seven cases. Conclusions: MR is the ideal study for cerebral and rachis malformations, been supplemented with TC. The occurrence frequency of CNS and rachis malformations is raised in our environment, because the facility is a concentration Hospital. Existent classifications and the image study for planning the treatment and genetic advice for their association to other malformations and chromosomopathy updating is required.
