| Abstract (English): | This study sets out the criteria to standardize procedures in pathology laboratories, with domestic microwave oven. We reviewed histological processing protocols, develop new use of an oven of 800 watts, according to physical principles of microwave emission and interaction with tissue. New protocols include fixation, embedding, staining and histochemical techniques. Were used fresh and fixed samples and positive controls appendix, stomach, skin, liver, kidney and lung for the histochemical techniques, defining the variables that affect the standardization and comparing the proposed procedures with traditional methods. Both salines solution and formalin (10%) retain the structure, eliminating toxic vapors with the first. At inclusion, the results depend: sample size, water content, tissue stiffness and thickness. There is an increase in quality and intensity on stains and reactions with microwave. The results indicate a large decrease in the time of the proceedings, which would allow early diagnosis and implementation of early therapy. Having considered all the criteria necessary to standardize procedures, allows pathology laboratories employ domestic microwave ovens with results that support a better prognosis for patients and lower cost for the laboratory.
